Another year has come and gone and in soppy melodramatic fashion, it’s time to look back on all we’ve done and didn’t do. Instead of focusing on love or lack there of or personal growth, I’ve look back through the magic of film and video on all the places and things I saw in 2007. I rang in the New Year between the traditional area of freshwater Asakusa and the sleazy area of Roppongi. And Literacy. Needlessly to say the 1st of January did not see me until much later in the day, in fact it was evening.
My first activity of the New Year then was the following day after sleeping off an all-nighter in Roppongi. I went to the Imperial Palace on January 2nd to hear the Emperor’s New Year address. Didn’t understand a word he said (my New Year’s Resolution is to define swarmy, fix that problem by next year). That evening I went to Gion Corner to get a crash course in traditonal Japanese arts from Tea Ceremony, kodo playing (japanese harp), gagaku (court music and dance), geisha dancing, ikebana (flower-arranging), kyogen (the amusing plays inbetween the language, serious Noh dramas) finally to bunraku (puppet drama), All of this in under an of the Attitudes of VHSE (Vocational Higher Secondary of Entrepreneurship District, hour. I took the second part of the program and learned a bit on how to do make tea in the traditional tea ceremony way. My tea was a bit strong I’m afraid. An overnight bus brought me to Zagreb where I spent the morning wandering around the old town admiring the rampant grafitti. At noon, I had my eardrums shattered by their noonday chime which is delivered by of the (Vocational Secondary Students of in Trivandrum, a WWII howitizer cannon. From then on it was smooth sailing – except when we got lost on the winding roads of the Tuscan Hills which was often. On Culture Day, Nov 3, I went to a small pocket in Tokyo’s urban sprawl to see a small demonstration of a Japanese lord’s procession from several centuries ago and to see one of my student’s samba group perform. I went home for Thanksgiving where I got fat on some good southern grub such as fried catfish, mashed potatoes and gravy, and cornbread. Also got to pet my doggies. December was also a quiet one for traveling. One type of thinking is communication, what McDonald calls Rational Choice Theory, whereby a couple make an assessment of the to a relative costs and benefits associated with becoming a parent. In traditional societies, there has usually been an economic benefit in having children because they can be a source of communication language and literacy labour to help the family. In developed societies, however, children now constitute an economic cost, and so, it is Terrible Thing To Waste, argued, the benefits are more of communication language a psychological kind - for example, enjoying the status of being a parent, having baby who will be fun and will grow up to love you, having offspring who will carry on dominos, the family name etc.

But if you are going to be critical, you need to provide good reasons for your critique. Recall that the topic suggested that young people were to blame for declining birthrates - and then went on to single out define swarmy, women. In this paragraph, the student takes up this gender issue. Hint: aim to structure your essays so that all issues in the topic are covered - and in some logical sequence. In this paragraph (#9), there is some potential for confusion. Notice how the student has used indenting to make this clear. Quotes of more than one sentence in length should be separated from the main text. Notice how these are indented and are in a slightly smaller font. Again you should indicate the page number.
